Animal Shelter Alliance
The Stamford Animal Shelter Alliance (SASA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation formed by the City of Stamford to serve as the official fundraising arm of the Stamford Animal Control & Care Center (SACCC), Stamford's municipal animal shelter. Our mission is to collect all monetary donations that come into the SACCC and raise money to support the important work done by the SACCC for the benefit of the animals in its care. We are a public/private partnership with the City of Stamford with a board of directors consisting of both Stamford city officials (Mayor, Director of Public Safety, Director of Administration and their designees) along with dedicated community volunteers who share a passion to improve the lives of Stamford's homeless and lost animal population who end up in the care of the SACCC.
Our primary goal has been to get a new, state-of-the-art shelter built in Stamford to replace the woefully inadequate and rundown current facility which was built almost 60 years ago. We spent many years working with the SACCC staff, city officials, city engineers and an architectural firm that specializes in designing animal shelters, to formulate a design to meet the current standards of care for shelter animals and to make the new shelter a welcoming environment for Stamford's homeless/lost animal population, the SACCC staff and volunteers and all who wish to adopt a new family member. For starters, the new design will: greatly reduce the stress our sheltered animals experience with an improved kennel layout where the dogs will not face each other; include quarantine/isolation rooms for cats and dogs; provide more natural light; include additional space for cats to roam about outside of their cages; include a welcoming entrance, getting- to-know rooms, a new community room for school groups and public events, improved staff offices, and more parking. The exterior of the shelter will feature enhanced outdoor runs and a more attractive overall appearance. These are just some of the exciting improvements that will be incorporated into the design of the new animal shelter. Bids are due by interested contractors April, 2025 with construction anticipated to be completed within 18 months following the awarding of the bid.
The bid documents for the construction of the new Stamford Animal Control & Care Center were posted on the City's procurement website. This is a major milestone we've been waiting for.
Interested bidders should contact City of Stamford Staff Engineer Lyudmila Fuks at LFuks@stamfordct.gov and register.
The deadline for bids is April 17, 2025. The review process will take a few months, but construction is expected to start this summer or fall.
2025 is the year we've been waiting for!
